Wakefield Words

What would it be like if we could step back in time and see Wakefield as it was? What would we have heard people saying? What kind of food did they eat?

Old documents, photographs and prints don't tell the full story and the small, everyday details of our lives often get left out of history, so we're lucky that in 1865, Wakefield solicitor William Stott Banks (1820-1872) took the trouble to collect some of the words and phrases that he'd heard around town.
